Havanese

Honestly, I have no idea what breed is Little Dan of...

I do know he is mixed and can’t be a Havanese!

But some how, he resembles almost 100% a Havanese!

How did that happened?

Little Dan’s new Vet

I’ve finally decided that I had enough of the previous Vet who won’t even touch my Little Dan during his visits… and switched to Century Animals.

When I stepped into the clinic, there weren’t a crowd… unlike what I usually see in the previous vet… the clinic is small but comfortable…

Little Dan was still a bit nervous…

Then Doc DL came out… a small but very nice and kind looking young chap!

When I put Little Dan up the examination table, Little Dan was shivering so hard that the whole table started to wobble… I was a bit embarrassed but Doctor just said “Don’t worry about, most dogs are nervous like that when they came up the table”…

Because Little Dan is not “very cooperative” we put a muzzle on his mouth… and the nurse checked his temperature (yes, she managed to, the last vet NEVER EVER succeeded in doing that).

What is even more amazing is, the nurse managed to draw blood from Little Dan’s leg! Doc Lim held Little Dan’s neck, and asked me to look into Little Dan’s eye to distract him from the needle… and although Little Dan did cry a little… the nurse managed to get blood sample from Little Dan!

WITHOUT HAVING to “kepit” him between two doors!

After ensuring that Little Dan is healthy and doesn’t have a any heart worm problem, Doc get ready the Pro Heart vaccine and asked me to hold Little Dan’s head… he administered the injection so fast but I was looking at him rather than Little Dan that I didn’t hold Little Dan’s head properly and Little Dan nearly snapped the Doc. But Doc just gave him a gentle whack on his buttock and gently warned him.

All through the time, Doc was talking to Little Dan, touching him and talking to us in either Mandarin or English… when he was speaking to Little Dan in English, my cute mommy even asked him to speak to Little Dan only in Chinese please, hahaha…

LD’s ordeal at the SAMC 2011

It’s time for Little Dan’s annual vaccination jabs…

He was thrilled when I suggested a “boot boot” ride and hopped onto my car eagerly and was happy all the way… until he finally realised where we were headed to… the Sabah Animal Medical Centre!

This boy some how remembered this was the place that caused him much pain… and refused to get down the car!

First it was the operation in 2009, then the vaccination jabs in 2010… and most recently, about half a year ago, he was jabbed for his cough… and the vet who is unable to touch him also didn’t help in calming him down… 

I only wish I could find another vet for his next vaccination…

After waited 1.5 hrs at the SAMC there were no stock for the Proheart vaccination.. and Little Dan was given a normally jab that would only last for one month… I can’t bear to even think about sending LD to the same vet every month for injections… not the stuck him between the doors jab again…

Gigi

It seems like only yesterday when Gigi was still a puppy
and a very mischievous one…

 

Gigi is “big girl” now… and she turns out to be one fine dog…

I love it when we go for walks she would always turn back and wait for me… unlike other younger dogs (especially Little Dan) who would just race each other away…

Rainy Days are Finally OVER!!!

Yippie, horray!

Now that the rainy days are over…
and the country road are no longer muddy…
I can bring him for his favourite evening walks again…
well today, he dragged me (literally) out of the house for his walk at 330pm! He aint care the sun is still shinning and that “his slave” will get sun tanned…

Just look at him running up and down the hilly road as if he’s racing… that’s a 6s clip… who can beat that!

 

Vet Ordeal

Noticed Little Dan started to cough
I panicked because I worry it could be heart worm infection…
After losing Boyboy to that dreadful decease… I am not taking any risk
Next day brought Little Dan to the vet!

The vet didn’t even examine Little Dan, merely asked me what’s wrong, no blood test, no physical exam, not stethoscope… in fact she didn’t even touched Little Dan!!!

She just saw two words written on Little Dan’s medical card “anjing garang” (fierce dog) and decides she is not taking any risk! |||

I can’t help thinking in my mind: If you can’t love a dog… and willing to risk your “safety” trying to cure them, why become a vet?

I told her Little Dan started to cough like vomiting… the vet straight away says, “oh that’s kernal cough”… but from what I learn from the internet, when a dog coughs, it could be due to many reasons… and the vet should at least examine and listen to the dog’s lungs!

And because Little Dan is an “anjing garang” they have to trapped him between the door and the grill to gave him the injections… I hate to see Little Dan went through that ordeal… he freaked out and was crying… lucky the ordeal went over very fast but still made Little Dan shakey… just look at him after the injections, hiding below the chairs and poke him head between my mom’s legs for little security!
 

I have decided not to go to this vet anymore if I could choose not to!

LD the Driver?

Little Dan loves a ride… and when I open the door to put in my handbag getting ready to drive to work,
he sneaked through the passenger side door and hop right into the car… I asked him to come down, he of course refuse and stayed there at the steering wheel as if “If you’re not driving me, I can drive myself!”

That’s it? just a cheap plate like that? Without even the doggie’s name on it…

Just “Jantan”? How’s that going to help dog owners when their dogs went missing?

DOG LICENCE

What you should know

1. A dog licence must be renewed each year before 31 January.

2. All dogs aged 6 months and above which are not wearing a valid licence medallion will be destroyed.

3. Provide proper care to your dog and ensure that it is healthy and free from any diseases.

4. Vaccinate your dog against any diseases and obtain certification from a veterinarian.

5. Provide a suitable kennel for your dog and take care of its cleanliness so that it is free from faeces, urine, food residue and any source of filth.

6. All faeces, urine and other filth from the dog should be disposed off properly.

7. Control and prevent harm or detriment to the environment and the general public

   • A dog should not be allowed to roam outside its premise without control.

   • Dog should be on a leash when brought out for walks.

   • Ensure that your dog does not bark continuously to the point of disturbing neighbours.

RESTRICTED AREA

The following are restricted areas to dogs:-

1. Restaurant/eating premises

2. Public vehicles such as bus, taxi, etc.

3. Apartments/flats

4. Religious buildings*

5. Hospitals/clinics (except animal clinics)

6. Kindergartens/schools and tuition centers

7. Recreational parks**

ACTION WHICH CAN BE TAKEN BY THE KOTA KINABALU CITY HALL

(If you are found to have violated specified conditions)

1. Fine

2. Court action

3. If found to be astray without licence of without control, your dog will be caught and destroyed.

 

*All religious buildings? oops… I brought LD to the church premises before… and why can’t I bring LD to the church… so that means I cant get LD baptised by the church?! :p

**All recreational parks are off limits to doggies? Then where am I suppose to walk LD?

If only I am filthy rich, I would build a park and name it “For Dogs and Dog Lovers ONLY”!

Another morning with LD

Hee hee… what else you think he’s doing?

That’s about the only time when he would stay put for a photo shoot…
so, please forgive his manners…

This boy is such a bad boy…
wouldn’t allow the nurse to take his temperature
(well, she attempted to put the thermo into his behind bah…)

He won’t let any of the pretty nurses there come near him…
he’ll start growling…
so I had to secure him on the table and pamper him like a giant baby!

 

At the end, they have to use the “hempit”* method to give him the injections…

*they squeezed him between the wooden door and the grill door  so that he can’t move and gave him the shots! (don’t worry, there’s enough space there, and only lasted about 5 seconds)

Seeing this ordeal Little Dan had at the animal hospital, I’ve decided to opt for the annual injections (instead of monthly) and this cost me RM150. But it’s well worth it, and it also save me the time and effort to send him nearly 15km away from home for the shots every month.

Oh ya, before he was give the shots, they checked his blood sample and commented that he is such a healthy dog! Clean blood! :) Of course, looks who’s the owner! The nurse even commented that he must not even been bitten by a mosquito! Hahahah… look at his fur, there’s no way the mosquito could get to him!

After the hospital, we brought him to his home place, the place where he was born to meet his mother… guess what, he couldn’t recognise her at all and was aggressive towards her!

Dan, that’s mommy and the one over there is your half sister… you know?

Look at that angry face… so cute right!

This little girl is only a quarter of Little Dan (aka Giant/Gigantic Dan)’s size!

But she has an attitude too!

LD is a Havanese?

 
This was Little Dan when I first saw him at his birth place… Auntie FS’s house! He was such a tiny puppy. In fact he was the smallest amongst all his other siblings.

Auntie FS has no idea who is his dad (LD has a very “naughty” mom) but I was told his mother is a Shihtzu mix…

 

Anyway, as this boy starts to grow day by day (literally)…

He is now this huge… so we can no longer call him “Little” Dan… he’s now known as “Giant Dan”!

 

Looking at him, I could find no traits of a Shihtzu… the size, the eyes, the jaws, the paws… is NO SHIHTZU at all!

As a matter of fact, he actually looks like a Havanese! 
A breed I first encountered in a dog breed book at Times Bookstore. First glance at the picture of a Havenese, I went “that’s exactly how Dan Dan looks like!”
