Over X years...

There's no cake, no present this year...

When was my last birthday cake?

Well, since I am senile of old age... I can't remember for sure,
but I think it was my 18th. Since then, I have not had a birthday cake...

Had a wonderful day nonetheless. Lunch with a dear friend, dinner with the family and I got my hair perm (although I wish I haven't).

Maggi and Me

I cried watching this advertisement,
because I totally relate to this character!

I practically grew up on Maggi Mee...
Until today, I connect with people who share the fond memory of the tv commercial "mee maggi cepat dimasak, sedap dimakan!"

Me and my brothers started having Maggi for lunch way before we started schooling!

When me and my brothers talked about having maggi when we were small, we were sure to talk about how one of us was too greedy to have the entire bowl of maggi and ended up being hospitalised after being scorched by hot maggi soup.

The story goes like this, one day, mom cooked maggi which was meant to be share by the three of us... but brother A demands to have it all  by repetitively saying "ngai oi sit sai gih"* ... mom was busy getting another bowl to portion the bowl of mee while brother A approached the hot bowl and tried to take it down from the stove by himself (he was 4 or 5 I think)... and then SPLASH! He had all the mee on his chest and cried mad! The soup was so hot it scorched him instantly... mom rushed with brother A (leaving me and brother I at home to no one) to the nearest neighbour (who stayed a quarter mile away) for help as she can't drive and dad was not home... all went well at the end although brother A had to stay in the hospital for a while... and mom was so worried then!

*in hakka, which means "I want to have it all!"

My First Outstation Appearance

I was sent to TAWAU for mentions!

To get there, I had to take the early flight at 7am... SEVEN AM! As I stay about 30 km from the airport, that means I had to wake latest by 5 am... It has been ages since I woke up that early to start a journey (since my last primary school day?)!

See? when I reached KKT1... the morning has only just begun to break! Anyway, the lights gave the airport a very nice look... :)

P1050302

Anyway, I was late (I checked in online so I took my sweet time)... so my breakfast ordered at the cafe in the boarding hall was not even ready yet when it was calling for boarding!

P1050306

P1050308
The croissant, fried egg, mashed potatoes and chicken sausage I ordered ended up in a plastic container...  that I had to carry on board (lucky MAS allow consumption of outside food onboard).

From Tawau Airport to Tawau town is a 30 minute long stretch of "highway".

P1050319

I reached the court premises around 830am...

P1050315

No one has arrived yet...

P1050314

There's only me, my files, the empty court and my camera... :)

Mmm... Tawau court public seats are cushioned! Just like the ones in KL... we are deprived of that in KK!

The court proceedings started at 930 am, nothing exciting happened... just the usual adjournments and I was relieved at around 10 am... after which I wandered purposelessly around the Tawau town until I find too very tiring (I was carrying a big briefcase with three files in it) and hot (it was such a cursed bright sunny day). Devastated by the fact that Pizza Hut is not opened until 11 am, I waved at a cab and took the long 30 minute ride to the airport thinking there might be better cafe there!

I was wrong of course... sigh!

P1050348

So I ended up writing a blog at the airport cafeteria and fallen asleep on the table (I know it's unsightly but I couldn't help it, I was so bored!)

I was so grateful when the flight finally took off slightly after 2.40pm... even though on an empty stomach (have no appetite at all in Tawau).

I took my late lunch at the brand new KKT1
P1050364

at the McDonald's (where else?)

And then headed home in a traffic jam...

Cursed by a Friend

A friend forwarded me an email entitled "Is your Horoscope Accurate?"

I read it although normally I'd would just delete such email but because I am 38 about my "horror-scope"...

Caring and kind. Smart. Center of attention. Messy at times and irresponsible!  Smart but lazy.  High appeal. Has the last word. Good to find, hard to keep. Passionate, wonderful lovers.  Fun to be around. Too trusting at times and gets hurt easilyLover of animals.  VERY caring, make wonderful nurses or doctors. They always try to do the right thing sometimes get the short end of the stick.  They sometimes et used by others and hurt because of their trusting.   Extremely weird but in a good way. Good Sense of Humor!!! Thoughtful. Always gets what he or she wants. Loves to joke. Very popular. Silly, fun and sweet. Good friend to other but need to be choosy on who they allow their friends to be5 years of bad luck if you do not forward.

I was liking what I was reading (as the description is SO ME) until the end... the last sentence! There I was being cursed with 5 years of bad luck as if I'm not unfortunate enough for the year of OX is bad for me already!

To all my dear friends, you know I would never, and I repeat NEVER, forward junk emails, so if you love me (or at least don't dislike me), please don't forward this kind of curses to me anymore... I beg you!

PS:
to the friend who just cursed me... I still love you!

Oral Test by the Judge

This morning (like every other morning before it), I was sent to the court for mention. And this time before a HC judge. I was briefed by the counsel in charge to inform the court that the Plaintiff will withdraw as solicitors for one of the plaintiff who have instructed us to withdraw the summons contrary to other Plaintiffs who wish to proceed. By withdrawing ourselves we could then proceed with the action and to get directions from the judge for the filing of subsequent papers and to obtain a return date for hearing. Sounds simple enough... so I went!

In the chambers, after I indicated to the judge my instructions, the judge suddenly asked:

"I thought there were settlement?"

"My Lord, apparently only the 4th Plaintiff claims that the matter is settle, and that's why we are withdrawing as solicitors"
(The Defendant's counsel also explained to the judge that as far that they are concerned the case is settled, but since not all Plaintiffs agreed, case will have to proceed.)

"How do you withdraw yourselves?"
(This really sounds like oral test, no?)

"My Lord, we filed in applications with affidavit to withdraw yesterday."

"Oh..."

"What's the story of these sale and purchase agreements? Last time you say will settle so I have not read the facts, now you want to proceed, please tell me."

I went ... (speechless with a silly smile on my silly face)

"What's the action about, Ms F"
(Oral test not finished yet ey?.. Fortunately this morning another lawyer of the firm asked me about the story behind the file and I have some vague recollections)

"My lord, I believe our client is disputing the validity of the sale and purchase agreement entered by the new shareholders of the company of which our clients where the previous shareholders" (I don't know whether its the exact story or not... but I think its of that line thus the "I believe"... gosh, lucky the judge didn't scold me for now knowing my case [which in reality is not my case but I can't tell that to the judge can I?])

"This company owns property?"

"Yes My Lord, and the property were sold vide the defendants become shareholders."

"Now what do you want to do?"

"My Lord, we will proceed with the action and ask the court's direction for the filing of the affidavit in opposition by the Defendants."

(The Defendants counsel then asked for time to file etc)

I blogged about this to remind myself to ALWAYS read the facts of the file before appearing in court! You will never know what you'd be asked!

Vibrato

I've failed to grasp what my flute teacher was trying to get me to understand how to do vibrato... after a few lessons I nearly gave up! But I didn't... I search the Internet (what else a lifeless person could do)... and found this method taught by Nina Perlove:

She mentioned the technique was developed by William Kincaid long long time ago.

But I still can't get my vibrato sound natural... then I found Carl Petkoff's technique and realised I should whisper "Too Woo Woo Wooh" instead of the "too foo foo foo foo" that I've been doing!

LX3 Reunion and the New Comer

LX3 Reunion

On the left my brother's... and on the right, mine! :)

Yes... we have two LX3 in the family...
of course separated by the South China Sea!

My brother's black LX3 look a lot more slimmer and mine looks a lot more bigger even though they are actually identical beside the color and the extra sticker on the silver LX3...

Maybe I should have gotten the black one because every time I take out my silver LX3, I got comments from people around me like. "your camera so big"... :s

Anyway, I'm looking forward to get another compact camera due to be launched by end of this month: the Fujifilm's F200 EXR!

The Telephone

Who invented the telephone? I don't remember and don't think his/her name is worth my memory (already it has such a small capacity)!

P1050115

I hate the telephone on my office desk... it's a ghost lurking in the dark (or more like hiding in the midst of the piles of files on my desk). When it rings, I HAVE to pick it up, even though I will never know who's on the other side! It rarely turns out to be a friend but a lot of times it's an unfriendly call (clients never sound friendly on the phone) from a person I don't know much. And I am never prepared for the answer.

Why can't the Internet be invented first... WAY BEFORE the telephone! Then we could all be using MSN Messenger and email!

They say emails with the lack of emotions is always a friendship killer, but I think telephone conversation is way worse! You see, everything I said on the phone cannot be taken back but when I'm chatting or writing an email, I can type the text, read it once, and decide whether to press enter!

With email, I can always "delay" my answer but with the phone I have to give the answer there and then without the required information... and the person on the other side of the phone always wants an answer there and then while I am still trying to remember who the #$**#$&*$ was him/her!

"hello, I am Mr X, I signed an agreement at your office the other day..." (hello? X number of people signed agreement in my office "the other day" and they are all either Mr or Ms Somebody).

Arrrrrrrrrgh, I just hate the phone and whoever invented it... drrrrrring... here is comes again! Damn!

The Art of Collages

Doulos1

These are pictures taken with my Minolta Dimage Xi years ago...
(ya, I know, composition sucks)

I just use the photos to show the art (ya I think it's art, shallow me) of collages by using the Picasa software.

I've always wondered how friends been publishing multiple photographs like that... but stubborn me refuse to do the simplest thing, ie, ask... so I ended up surfing the Internet for nearly an hour! (A "lifeless"* person like me got so much time anyway...)

Anyway, now that I've been enlightened... you will see more of these in the future...
